"The trouble with quotes on the Internet is you never know if they are genuine." --Abraham Lincoln

What did Bill Cosby ever do to deserve this?

Bill Cosby ‘I’m 83 And I’m Tired’ Rant Is Fake, Angers Cosby

A Bill Cosby rant titled “I’m 83 and I’m Tired” has been making its way around Facebook and email in recent days, one in which the comedy legend seems to rant against people who mooch off government support and those looking to “spread the wealth.”

The only problem is that those aren’t Bill Cosby’s words at all. In fact, Cosby is pretty angry that people would think it’s coming from him.

******

The rant goes on to target Muslims, people with tattoos, and self-absorbed athletes and politicians.

A few issues would jump out immediately. First, Bill Cosby has never identified as a right-wing conservative, and terms like “leftwing Congresscritters” sound nothing like the well-spoken doctor and more like something that would originate on right-wing radio. In fact, if Cosby were to rant about something, it would likely turn out funnier and much more well-written than the “I’m Tired” rant.

I think I used to see a very similar-sounding rant making the rounds which was attributed (also falsely) to Bill Gates and others.

Like the "quote" after Newtown where he said we should focus on ANYTHING BUT TEH GUNS!!!!

Apparently the new fad for these pinheads is to attribute these things to respected older African American guys. Hmmm, wonder why they might play that game.

7. And I recently came across another one with a Conan O'Brien "quote"

Where he supposedly "said": "Have you heard about McDonald's' new Obama Value Meal? Order anything you like and the guy behind you has to pay for it."

I watch Conan every night and I've never heard him give a joke even remotely similar to that.

This Snopes discussion clearly indicates this and other jokes were falsely attributed to O'Brien and other comics:

(I mean, Jimmy Kimmel making birther jokes? Seriously?)

The sad thing is--and someone on Snopes even pointed this out--even the jokes attributed to Jay Leno were too lame to believe as authentic, and Leno's the most likely to appeal to a right of center base out of all of them.
