"In today's modern warfare, the Second Amendment is obsolete."

Well, this LTTE totally throws out the conservative "2nd Amendment is against tyranny" BS:

In 1775 a group of feisty North American colonists, armed with only single-shot, muzzle-loading, ball-and-powder muskets, faced down a contingent of British regulars and by 1783 chased them out of the country. One reason this was possible is that the British weapons were little better than the colonists'. As much of the fighting had been done by militias, it seemed reasonable at that time to guarantee the people the right to maintain "a well-regulated militia" as defense against future tyrants. Thus the Second Amendment was ratified into the
Constitution in 1791.

Today, whenever tyrants appear with heavy tanks, a sky full of bomber planes and jet fighters, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and pilotless drones, you and I, with our trusty Saturday Night Specials, will hold them off.

Come on, let's get real. In today's modern warfare, the Second Amendment is obsolete. It's time to repeal it.

Sure, you go toe to toe with a tank, you lose spectacularly. That is why you fight only on your terms and at soft targets(i.e. people, suppliy routes)

Not defending gun nuts but lets stick to the topic of gun safety laws.

Because what you're talking about isn't the USA -not in the past, not in the present, and not any time in the near future.

we will need the 2nd Amendment to put down any armed insurrection against our government. Someone is confused about the intent behind the amendment. (See Whiskey Rebellion.)

First, I am in no way supposing the 2nd Am. is a license to overthrown the United States Government. That's called treason and if anyone reading wants to do it, I look forward to reading about your trial, conviction, and execution.

But, it is possible to fight a vastly more powerful enemy given enough time and willingness to accept casualties. It's called asymmetrical warfare.

It can be done.

And I'm for gun control. but it's pretty amazing the harm someone who is willing to die as a suicide bomber can do.
