Good luck to all of you caught in this mess.

(63,912 posts)no tire tracks on our street. "Pure as the driven snow" is an apt description...
am just getting up...not hearing totals for New Haven yet...
Today is a good day to get some laundry done and making a nice hearty bean soup...

(114,904 posts)I wouldn't be surprised if you guys get a total close to what they have.
How about some muffins with that bean soup?
Enjoy your day!

(63,912 posts)But I did stock up on enough food to last us for the "duration." Stop & Shop was a zoo yesterday but I got there at 8 am...the biggest problem was grabbing a grocery cart! And the Deli counter was absurd...

(5 posts)Southern Hamden, in Spring Glen.
Finally gave up clearing the snow every half hour from front and back doors about 2:00 a.m., and there's nothing moving out there this a.m.
I'd certainly believe that total +/- an inch or two depending on where one is in the area.
Way too much for our snow blower so it will be a long dig out (we're on a triangular corner lot, hence 4-5x the sidewalk to clear than our neighbors).
Didn't lose power and are thankful the wind never wound up beyond 30-40 mph in this area, as we have trees.
Our concern goes out to those who haven't been so lucky.

(114,904 posts)and that you gave up trying to clear the snow every 1/2 hour. I gave that up (in big storms) years ago. It's a sisyphean task.
stay warm and welcome to DU.
Thank you Cali!
At this point I'm still wandering from window to window with coffee in hand trying to figure out where to start. Still a decent wind and lots of blowing snow.

(31,464 posts)We got hammered, and it's still coming. Haven't been able to get out of the house yet...I just tried the basement door, but it's down a half-flight of steps and has a huge drift in front of it. Garage is the next attempt, but I know it's blocked, too. Since the door just goes straight up, though...I just don't want the wall of snow to fall inside. No word on the plow guy or the Bobcat is accessible (it's halfway down the driveway, buried).
be careful out there

(16,201 posts)I'm in a Cape Cod and both storm doors are blocked. After breakfast I'm going to open the inner doors and hop out a window to go clear them.

(31,464 posts)Just got the first HALF the driveway cleared enough to get at least two cars out, with four people, a snowblower and a Bobcat. Oh boy, we get to do it again tomorrow!

(14,881 posts)Luna and I "cleared" a path through snow ranging from mid-thigh to chest deep down to the barn, with Jakey following. I was barely able to open the barn door enough to get in. Dahli and Belladonna were fine in the barn, although some snow came in under the open eaves it wasn't bad at all.
Headed back, Luna was leading and I was following from behind when Jakey collapsed about 30 feet from the house. He was hunkered down, shivering hard and licking his paw and wouldn't move. He's 85 pounds so I couldn't carry him on a good day. I tried holding up his hind end for him (he has bad hips and his back has been bothering him the last couple days), but he just laid down and growled. So I rubbed him and rubbed him, trying to massage his hips and back. Suddenly he jumped up and bounded the rest of the way to the small bare path alongside the house.
He's ok now, but I'm still a little upset. I know he's getting old, but I don't like reminders of it.
