Petitions don't accomplish anything.

But go sign anyway.

It's called Slacktivism.

Re gun control: polls show 90%+ people are in favor of background checks, yet they tell you to go sign more petitions. They don't need petition signers to know what we want. Plus no petitions have led to legislation. The WH Petition Page is a joke. A gazillion people sign one for marijuana legalization....what happened, nothing. Petitions are about feeling good for doing nothing.

The petition to fire US Attorney Carmen Ortiz already has 52,192 signatures. Heymann was the guy on the phone to Swartz's attorney who insisted on a felony conviction with jail time. He deserves to be fired even more than his supervisor Carmen Ortiz.

The petitions of Internet users already stopped SOPA and PIPA despite their strong backing from industry lobbyists. Your voice does have a powerful effect. At 25,000 signatures the White House will respond to the petition. Thank you for signing!
