Simple Question: Are all supporters of the 2nd Amendment inherently racist?

There is a particular argument by a few that all supporters of the 2nd Amendment are racist (and sexist and homphobic and even white-supremacist, according to at least one). Some of these members claim most of DU shares that view.

I'm curious if that is true or false, so I thought I'd ask and see where DU stands on this one, simple question:

Are all people who support the 2nd Amendment inherently racist (and/or sexist, homophobic, white-supremacist?)

Of course not. But most of the really nutty far right gun nutters are.

And that's a fact!

Sure, you said "There is a particular argument by a few ... ", but that simplifies down to the Fox News trademark leading question pre-fix, "some say ... ".

Do you recall in High School, when you took a True / False test, the dead give away that a question was FALSE, was a question that said "X is always followed by Y" or "Y never follows X".

Now let's look at your wording ... to help, I've placed the "give away" words in all CAPS.

Are ALL people who support the 2nd Amendment INHERENTLY racist (and/or sexist, homophobic, white-supremacist?)

Correct answer: FALSE.

I wasn't really wanting to transfer a meta issue to GD, but was curious as to DU sentiment on that very specific question, as that is the specific charge made by a few in the thread linked to above. But you asked, so there you go.

supporting an inherently racist industry. Just like even if they aren't supportive of the NRA, by purchasing guns they are inadvertently supporting Republican values.

Questions like that make my head hurt.

How ignorant can someone be? I would be ashamed of myself for even THINKING
such a thing. Such lines of thinking belong on the OTHER end of the political spectrum.

The NRA certainly is ... many of the gun trolls that found DU since the Newtown tragedy certainly are ....but, those folk are simply idiots.

Though I will never agree with gun enthusiasts on the gun issue ... I in no way attribute those characteristics (racist, sexist and homophobic and white-supremacist) to folk simply because of their position on guns (if this were framed as supporters of the NRA, my answer would be very different)

That kind of conflation of issues weakens all of our righteous causes.

And anyone here who claims such should, IMHO, should post elsewhere.

They ought to check reality out sometime. I'm sure they wouldn't dig it and would be appalled. No question some fit the description but to some degree or another, it will apply to anything. There are some racist motherfuckers that love Social Security. There are homophobic atheists. White Supremacist Socialists. I've also personal have known gun owners fitting every single group described to the tune of not even considering such a goofy theory till now.

Hell of a bubble to be in.

It's O'Reilly-ish, and this is from someone who hates guns. Being for or against certain gun control policies has nothing to do with racism, sexism, homophobia, being a member of the Legion of Doom, or being a covert alien spy seeking to take over the world. It just means that you feel a certain way about those policies.
