Does this seem unethical to you?

Some think so. But when dolphins are facing imminent danger and death I don't believe it is, especially if the sounds can be canned.

It didn’t make the same worldwide headlines as the dead Gowanus dolphin, but a remarkable rescue of nearly 150 dolphins in imminent danger of stranding was just carried out in Australia, where wildlife experts deployed a questionable but ultimately successful technique to lure the large pod to safety.

A juvenile dolphin was captured and used to issue distress calls out in deeper water, in order to attract the pod’s attention and lead it to safety.

Would it be more ethical to let 150 dolphins die? FSogol Feb 2013 #1

Suppose you had to get 150 humans out of a building quickly. Would it be ethical to kidnap a child, make it cry to get the people out? Probably not.

Something we cannot do with dolphins. They did what they needed to do.

Dolphins are smart enough to tell a real distress call form a canned one, for the same reason we can. Wrong responses to our answers.

but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some of this "questioning" of the ethics is just proverbial 'ass covering'.

If a community of people were wandering over a cliff, would it be unethical to hold one of their crying babies back to lure them away? Or would it be better to honor and respect that family by allowing the baby to go over the cliff with them?
