Is there a way to know whether ordering from a site is safe?

A family member asked me to see if a could find an item currently on a site called ebags http://www.ebags.com/

I rarely order from any regular site. Normally would be a site associated with a store that I know or Amazon, where spouse has an account.

So I wonder weather there is a way to search to find out whether a site will respect my order, not abuse my credit card and ship the merchandise as promised.

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

I've encountered that as well. I think they just put some items on Amazon to lure you over to ebags. onehandle Feb 2013 #8
It's an indicator that a major retailer trusts them, though. (nt) Posteritatis Feb 2013 #9

were not on Amazon.

I suppose they have to limit their supplies, too.

I type in "Complaints about _(store name/site name) and go from there, checking out the complaints.
You can also go to TheConsumerist.com and search there for the name.
Also if the site does not have phone number where I can call my order as an option, I usually do not shop there.

Keep in mind that if you are ripped off, and report it to your credit card company, you will owe a minimum of 50.00 and often not even that, since they will be glad of the info. about the store.
Been shopping online for many years now, never been ripped off. I tend to choose well known online stores, in this country.
