Massachusetts Republicans can't find a Senate candidate
February 5, 2013, at 2:55 PM

In the few days since John Kerry resigned to become Secretary of State, five prominent Republicans have passed on the chance to run for his seat in a June 25 special election.

On the Democratic side, two well-known lawmakers, Rep. Ed Markey (D) and Rep. Stephen Lynch (D), have launched their bids, setting up an April 30 primary.

Why the cold feet among Republicans?

One reason is timing. The candidate who wins in June will have to quickly gear up to run again in 17 months, when Kerry would have been up for re-election.

Another reason is the strong and heavily financed Democratic field of potential candidates who could run either this year or next.

snip//

The fact that not a single prominent Republican is willing to take a chance at running for an open Senate seat is shocking.

It's embarrassing.

And it’s another sign of the disarray the party finds itself in after a string of tough election losses in 2012.

They would just love to create drama and suspense where there is none and replay the whole Scott/Coakley election all over again.

on the Right who insist all he did wrong was try to create some jobs for the people and then mean old liberals played politics and ruined his company.

The good news is that there is no way he has the money right now to self-finance a campaign.

Known in MA, at least, and close to Romney and Brown.
The other one is a Tea Party guy.

This is the perfect example of DC media. During this time, Winslow gives interviews on the local media.

First, it is irritating that national media are dismissing Winslow. He is a better candidate than Brown and more articulate.

Also, if we could focus on having a progressive on OUR ticket, this would be good.

wait until we have beat our candidates to a pulp, and then get in the race at the last minute. Expect a young female who can read a teleprompter well and pretends to counter Sen Warren.

A contradiction in terms.

prominent Republican I know of, who was asked, and turned it down, was William Weld.

He was governor here sometime during the late 20th Century.

Then there's Scott Brown, who became a known entity.

The rest of 'em....wouldn't know one from the other. As I'm sure many Republicans here would also say.

Who the hell ARE these guys?

It's like they (the Repubs) didn't see this coming. Which they probably didn't.

Oh well

I think he's under the illusion that the small but rabid fanclub he has will somehow make the rest of Mass overlook the rabid, RW, evangelical, racist views he spent years spewing on the radio until the station (wtkk) switched to music last month.
