would a day go by when 911 was not brought up repeatedly and pinned to the Dems if it had happened during a Democratic administration? But the Rs went all Orwell on us and brought it up repeatedly to their benefit! The Democratic Party should have turned that around on them.

Republican hypocrisy makes me physically sick. Forget "national unity", they would have impeached President Obama and probably pressed criminal charges.

CheckMATE.

And they NEED to be smacked around - HARD, too. We've never been more poorly served than when republi-CONS are in high office.

This teeters a bit on the "two wrongs don't make a right" problem. The fact that other people might make bigger mistakes, does not erase the fact that another individual might have made a mistake. If the only ones privileged to cast political stones were politicians who have never erred, then no stones at all could be cast, and thus nothing could be learned from mistakes.

the point is not that intelligence failures shouldn't be examined. of course they should be, and practices should constantly, and especially after failures, be reassessed and improved. same with security.

the point is that *republicans*, who in particular rejected calls for investigations into the 9/11 intelligence debacle, claiming any such investigation was anti-american and unpatriotic, are not remotely in a position to be giving lectures on the subject.

nor, may i point out, are they genuinely interested in the security and well-being of embassy personnel. the way they are conducting themselves makes it quite plain that they are only interested in scoring political points on the graves of 4 honorable americans.
