Edit to add:
@alpinepressski: Doctor on hill with @lindseyvonn suspects tibial plateau fracture. We'll await official diagnosis following X-rays and MRI.
This can be treated with surgery. The danger is damage to the artery in that area.
Doesn't sound good.

There apparently was fog and the next 3 racers DNF'd. Wonder why they let her race?

With this kind of fracture it really depends on exactly how shattered the tibial plateau is as to how serious the injury is. She'll be out for at least 12 weeks and if it's a really bad one yes, it could be a career ender.
In my case, after all the fractures healed I just ended up with two divots in the plateau that correspond to where my femur crashed into it. I can still ski, run, etc. but my orthopedist told me that because of that damage a new knee is very definitely in my future--some years down the road.
Keeping my fingers crossed for her.

FIS official: Dr reported a cruciate and lateral ligament injury not tibia, as rumored earlier. But no further details
This is worse.
