One of the victims is reportedly former Navy SEAL and best-selling author Chris Kyle.
ABC affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas reported that three sources said Kyle, author of the New York Times bestselling book, "American Sniper," and a neighbor of his were shot while helping a soldier who is recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome at a gun range in Glen Rose.
The suspect, identified as Eddie Routh, 25, was arrested in Lancaster, Texas, after a brief police chase, a Lancaster Police Department dispatcher told ABC News.

One thing is sure. If there's not enough of Wayne LaPierre's "good guys with a gun" at a shooting range where ALL of the good guys have a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun, then how will more guns conceivably make us any safer?

(978 posts)But yea. In this case both the good guys and the bad guy had a gun but the good guys were completely caught off guard. They weren't expecting it even though they were armed.
The range was in a remote area and they were the only ones there. No other good guys with guns were anywhere nearby.
So much for the saying that "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun." That just went out the window.
Gun fanatics can be victims like anyone else. Guns provide an opportunity for impulsivity. This is why gun fanatics swaggering around with a concealed weapon won't necessarily save the day. They'll catch one between the eyes before they even know what's going on.
But Americans love to continue to glorify guns. As far as I'm concerned, the spilled blood is on their hands not mine.

(12,072 posts)Law abiding gun owners have to wait for the bad guy to do something first. We then get to shoot after he has fired a couple of rounds. We can't stop his first shots, but we can certainly stop the rest of them if we are there and have a clear shot.

(30,058 posts)Will Congress get the courage to make a stand on this. The NRA has been grading them on their votes the NRA wants but the other side will also grade them for their work on AWB, we will see who has the votes. Refusal to bring bills to the floor will result in a bad grade, where do they stand.

(13,877 posts)called home? Surely it's not "God's Will"...especially the innocent kids and the unarmed. Yet, the bodies continue to pile up.

(13,812 posts)Not going to lose sleep because a guy who bragged about killing a bunch of people in a country he helped invade met the working side of a firearm.
