A better one would be to compare muskets to AK47s.
Musket: smooth bore, low muzzle velocity, short range, inaccurate, cheap to build, many sold worldwide.
AK47: rifled bore, moderate muzzle velocity, short range, inaccurate, cheap to build, many sold (except in US)
AR-15: rifled bore, relatively high muzzle velocity, short range, moderate accuracy, expensive to build, a fair number sold in the US (not so common worldwide).
So, the only things in common between an AR and a musket is they are fairly short range, and fairly common in the US. There's probably a semi-automatic, common, and inexpensive hunting rifle that would be a bit more analogous to a musket...what is, I don't know.
A better comparison might be an AR and a Kentucky long rifle. Both are somewhat expensive, roughly equal range, moderate muzzle velocity, rifled barrell. The Kentucky rifle was considered highly accurate for its day, but probably somewhat equal to an AR by todays standards.
