General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI hate seeing the threads about tortured and murdered children
and animals. I know that they are topics of general discussion but bumping into one of these while looking for an interesting thread is excruciatingly painful. Being a mom and grandmother, I suppose I am just terribly sensitive to these subjects. I wish there was another forum for the posting of these types of horrors.
I guess there is no real point to this thread other than posting an issue that I've never seen on DU before.

(24,544 posts)The one about the Saudi cleric raping and killing his 5-year old daughter made me almost sick to my stomach. I avoided GD until it was no longer on the front page of the forum.
I am also a mother, of a 6 year old and a toddler so that may explain some of it.

(12,392 posts)I've also avoided the forum on occasion for similar reasons, and I wondered if I was the only one with this problem. But in all honesty, I have to mute the tv as well when these topics come up, or I'll be depressed for hours. I sometimes wonder how the news people handle these horror stories day in and day out.

(20,600 posts)I used to call these threads the "bloody killing of the week thread". You can either trash the threads by clicking the X by them, or, if you notice a duer who has a pattern of posting these type of stories, put them on ignore. Often, these type of "blood and guts" news stories come from a handful of the same duers who seem to take delight in posting them.

(502 posts)I didn't notice the tiny x before, that info answers my comment above. Thanks for posting it.

(12,392 posts)I was quite certain I would be pounded and told to "man up and live in the real world". I'm grateful for all the advice and sensitive replies.

(14,554 posts)I mean, if there was something we could do, fine, but usually, there isn't and we're just left feeling sick and powerless. I know there are horrible people out there doing horrible things. I do what I can locally, but I don't need to be confronted with it every day, you know?
