Honest question, are there any non-whites in Newton, Connecticut?

Every time I've seen anything about the shooting or any group of people or children from there they have all been whites. I'm from Louisiana so I'm not used to seeing things like that, it's very creepy.

It's very odd to grow up in an area that is diverse, and then to move to see a primarily ANY race area in the news. Believe me; my wife moved to Oregon, and was totally weirded out by the lack of diversity in some of the areas. It's all a matter of what you are just used to living around.

We prefer diverse areas too--- it's just more "comfortable" feeling.

You need to have a certain percentage of white people in order to feel "comfortable", as opposed to " weirded out".

Why do you see your neighbors' skin colors as being so important?

it's a matter of a mix of diverse cultures, and crap...I can't think of the word....socio-economic status? IOW...my wife grew up in a diverse neighborhood with the neighbors being a pharmacist, a Jr. High janitor, a security guard at a department store (best yard in the neighborhood, hands down...we still have photos), a radio singer (kid you not...she was amazing), etc. It was very diverse. Now, it's turned into a "yuppie haven," we can't afford any of the homes there....some of the smaller houses have been ripped down, and replaced by McMansions, and everyone is a lawyer, banker, etc. There is NO diversity anymore. And furthermore, she has watched the street change since 1966. Parents still live in the same house.

So, nice try at making the OP and me feel "guilt," for appreciating real diversity. Perhaps you haven't experienced it enough to actually ENJOY it.

One of the victims was biracial, if that makes you feel better. You're from a part of the country that has a large AA population. Imagine if someone asked after Katrina if there were any white people in New Orleans and that it was creepy not seeing any of them.

Then again, the state as a whole is around 88% white -- actually an improvement from 92% when I grew up there!
