Reserve Marine Corporal is charged in fatal shooting of ex-SEAL/author Craig

(So far he hasn't made any statements. He was "buddies" with Chad Littlefield the other person he killed. More details in the article link.)

Man charged in fatal shooting of ex-SEAL/author
By JAMIE STENGLE and CHRISTOPHER SHERMAN | Associated Press – 20 mins ago

Eddie Ray Routh of Lancaster was arraigned early Sunday on two counts of capital murder in the deaths of Kyle, 38, and Chad Littlefield, 35, at the shooting range about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

Capt. Jason Upshaw with the Erath County Sheriff's Office said Routh used a semi-automatic handgun, which authorities later found at his home. Upshaw declined to give any more details about the type of gun used.

Routh has not made any comments indicating what his motive may have been, Upshaw said. Sheriff Tommy Bryant said Routh was unemployed and "may have been suffering from some type of mental illness from being in the military himself," but he didn't know if Routh was on any medication.

"I don't know that we'll ever know. He's the only one that knows that," Upshaw said.
The U.S. military confirmed Sunday that Routh was a corporal in the Marines from June 2006 to January 2010. He was deployed to Iraq in 2007 and Haiti in 2010. His current duty status is listed as reserve.

2. Yes it is strange from the details that have just come out.

Imagine there's more to come.

So far they say the two were shot with a "handgun." I don't know if they were shooting targets with rifles at the practice range or handguns, though. Article doesn't say. Some other reports say the two were shot in the back, but this report doesn't confirm.

4. I think this is about PTSD in some way. He served in Iraq and Haiti..

not the most uplifting places for a young person to serve. He's 25 now...served in Iraq in 2007 then to Haiti?

It will be interesting to see what else comes out about him given that he would shoot his buddy neighbor who was trying to help him along with such a famous Sniper as Craig was (who also was supposedly trying to help him).

More to it than the battle over gun laws with this sad, strange event, I think. This is Marine shooting another Marine and his own buddy at a "Target Practice Range."

6. That's the question. Since we don't know the relationship to Craig...

but his buddy/neighbor Littlefield was shot along with Craig. What was the relationship since Craig worked with PTSD sufferers...was this something that he'd found helpful with them? There are some reports that the Killer was also a "sharpshooter" but unverified so far from the official reports. Was this the reason he would have been taken to a target practice range? Craig apparently worked with PTSD sufferers and maybe this had been some therapy that had worked for others.

It's just speculation...since it's Sunday...don't think police have had much time to deal with this and he's not talking so may in the next days we will find out more about his motivation.

9. We don't know yet what the relationship was. I'd rather wait and see how

it all ties together when more information comes out. It's a Sunday and the guy was just captured last night and he isn't talking. So, imho, it's too early to draw to many conclusions about what was going on. I speculate it was War Fatigue and PTSD...but, who know what the relationship amongst those THREE was that they were there at that "Target Practice Range" just before Craig's big training conference or whatever it was at the Resort where the murder took place.

Just saying...

7. The "mental illness" notion originates at the feet of those who send teenagers into a war zone

(especially wars of choice) with daily blood, gore, violence, fear, deprivation and physical wounds expecting them to mentally "shake it off" when they return. To me, that barbaric notion in and of itself, is certifiable. That it is a shock, even more so.
