Chimpanzees and humans have the Same Blood Types

Not just a similar system, but the same blood types. It's something our common ancestor had and we both retain.

A question, to which I do not know the answer... Would a transfusion from a chimp be useful to a person? Deadly? Nothin'?

(Or visa-versa... there are way many more humans than chimps now.)

I would *guess* that chimp blood would perform some basic oxygenation but be all messed up for us in other ways, but I have no idea.

Either way, I would *guess* that a transfusion from a (wrong type) member of your family might be deadlier than a transfusion from a (right type) chimpanzee.

Does anyone know about what happens with trans-species whole-blood transfers?
