If the repubs don't have a leader anymore,

then will this country end up very soon being a single party political system? That would be even worse than having the current really dumb republicans. I suspect, as someone else posted, that many of the 'repubs' will start saying they are democrats, only a little more conservative. They would probably still vote for a republican candidate.
So, what is the answer? Either way doesn't sound very good to me.

There's likely a generation of Bob Doles, Gerald Fords, Olympia Snows, Thomas Deweys, Jim Jeffords, etc. but they won't garner any financial backing to even win primaries.

As for the Party being leaderless, it's because they can't agree who's calling the shots. Roger Ailes, the Koch Brothers, Rush? People outside political office are trying to assert their authority. Before Reagan, there were political contributors but they deferred to the officeholder for the most part.
