Jimmy Lee Dykes Holds Alabama Boy Hostage For Fifth Day, Authorities Mum About Talks

One of Dykes' next-door neighbors said the suspect spent two or three months constructing the bunker, digging several feet into the ground and then building a structure of lumber and plywood, which he covered with sand and dirt.

Neighbor Michael Creel said Dykes put the plastic pipe underground from the bunker to the end of his driveway so he could hear if anyone drove up to his gate. When Dykes finished the shelter a year or so ago, he invited Creel to see it – and he did.

"He was bragging about it. He said, `Come check it out," Creel said.

He said he believes Dykes' goal with the standoff is to publicize his political beliefs.

"I believe he wants to rant and rave about politics and government," Creel said. "He's very concerned about his property. He doesn't want his stuff messed with."

It is similar to a tornado shelter -- they are reasonably common in tornado country FarCenter Feb 2013 #18

calm him yet they can't get some kind of gas down in there to make them sleep long enough to get the boy out? During the Moscow theater incident and they used sleep gas grenades on the terrorists. This can also be pumped into the air supply or vent. I believe in Moscow they used 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate but there are others like isofluran, desflurane, halothane, and even nitrous oxide. Most used in hospitals around the world.

More than 100 people died in the Moscow theater incident you refer to because of bad reactions to the gas that was pumped in.

it's bitter smell, however the others I listed could. Good point about the weight difference but a Dr might be able to find an amount of something similar to what i listed that could be safely used.

and it killed 117 of the hostages. Introducing anesthetic gas into an uncontrolled environment is a dicey affair. There's a reason that when it's used in surgery there's an anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist sitting right at the head of the patient, closely monitoring them.

heart breaks for the poor child & family.
How is it that this monster was able to have guns after killing a neighbors dog and shooting at children.
Just tuned in to CNN no changes, law enforcement are grateful that Dykes allowed child to have coloring books.

Seems like a missed opportunity to help the situation and they always want attention for their platforms / shows
Or are they already playing up the governmt trying to invade his home and take away his gun as the message ?

I'm sure they wouldn't let any of them talk to the guy. There is tons of special training that go into this. Would you put your child's life in the hands of someone as unhinged and inconsistent as Rush or Beck?

if not shouldn't it have been reported to authorities before ?

the guy did so many things before this one incident. he should never have had weapons at the point where this happened.

i don't understand why he wasn't in prison either. was he arrested at all for the previous things he did ?

this is what will go on everywhere if the right wing had their way.
