(12,958 posts)He is 28. He tried form age 18 to age 28 to 'pray away the gay'. He finally realized that it will never work. He wasted ten years trying. He says he is finally free. His office mate is the worst republican in our department. His office mate insists that 'it's a choice'. His office mate is a hopeless case.
He told me that he knew at age 12, when he saw his first porn magazine. He said he found himself more interested in the men in the images than the women. He said that was the moment he realized he was gay.
He is noticeably happier since he came out. He is scared to tell his father that he is gay, because his father might shoot him if he finds out. He told me that his fathers 'solution' to everything is to 'nuke it'. Nuke Iraq, nuke Iran, Nuke Afghanistan, nuke the liberals, nuke 'the soviets.' His father is a hopeless case.
My friend has metamorphized from hardcore republican to staunchly progressive since coming out. It's pretty amazing watching it unfold.

(81,314 posts)Glad you're here. I LOVE the second picture - that's a VERY cool dad. Wouldn't it be great if everyone was as open-minded and accepting and tolerant? We'd be a lot better off as a country, that's for SURE!

(4,192 posts)It's about time that narrative changed. There is nothing wrong with being gay. If you cannot be happy for people in love... or just people who are happy together... then the problem is you.

(120 posts)Being gay is like everything else human, a big picture with all the colors of being human. The only thing abnormal are those than choose not to realize all that humanity encompasses. They want to make exclusion a virtue, which only reflects their limitations. Live, love, and let humans be.
