(6,907 posts)I am on top of a hill and can straight through the pass between lookout mt. and signal mt. that goes toward georgia and alabama. A storm started rolling through and it went from light to dark in seconds, you could feel the pressure dropping.
oops, there's a mountain missing:

(177 posts)Two weeks ago we were at 15 degrees for 3 nights at our house. Coldest since 1987. Then five days later it was 82. Hottest temp in Jan on record. Then this weekend we got three straight days of rain. We got 2 inches in 24 hours, a new record. That is more rain than we usually get in three months. I have lived in the PHX area since 1999, and was born in AZ. I have NEVER seen weather like this in my 42 years.

(46,179 posts)Not that we haven't had freezing temps and snow; we have.
Winter started 2 months late. I was beginning to think it wasn't going to show up at all. Once here, it was reasonable. We had 5 days of very cold temperatures, and our lows have been at the high end of normal the rest of the time. Our highs have been running at the extreme high end of normal, with some days actually hitting the low 50s, which is not normal at all.
Last winter was warmer than usual, as well, although not this warm. Last winter I only used half the firewood I usually need to heat the house. This year I didn't buy any more. It looks like last year's leftovers will see me through this winter.

(3,069 posts)It has been a little colder than usual, and there have been fewer temperature swings than we usually get between Thanksgiving and now. We have had three snows that "stuck", but not enough to shut the city down. The last couple of winters I have had to run my AC a lot, which isn't normal. This year, I have managed to keep it off. I am hoping that the week or so of sub-freezing temps we had around Christmas improves our mosquito/flea issues going into spring/summer. It was brutal last year, but we only had ONE hard freeze IIRC.

(29,414 posts)I don't know what the temps were earlier this week, but it was shorts and short-sleeves weather. Now, it's chilly enough for a light jacket. It will likely warm up by the weekend and the cycle will repeat.
This is pretty typical weather for us

(36,063 posts)For the last couple of hours Milw has been on the eastern edge of the backside snow, and the heat island shows nicely as a stationary bulge in the freezing mix generally moving to the northeast.
It'll be interesting to see how long it holds out against this storm...
