Gomer marries his longtime male partner

Jim Nabors, the Hawaii resident well known for his starring role in the 1960s television sitcom "Gomer Pyle, USMC," married his longtime male partner early this month, he told Hawaii News Now Tuesday.

Nabors, 82, said he married his companion of 38 years, Stan Cadwallader, who's 64, in Seattle on Jan. 15.

Nabors declined an on-camera interview but spoke to Hawaii News Now by phone.

"I'm 82 and he's in his 60s and so we've been together for 38 years and I'm not ashamed of people knowing, it's just that it was such a personal thing, I didn't tell anybody," Nabors said. "I'm very happy that I've had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I'm just very happy."

I'm so pleased. This more than any legislation, is turning the tide against bigoted homophobes.

in any of the states that have allowed marriage equality. In fact, most of those states are doing quite well, unlike the ones where DOM laws have been passed. Those states are sewers.

equality in Washington state. That said, I would be a dumbshit to think Gomer Pyle had anything at all to do with it. My heart is broken but my intellect remains perfectly fine.

It's only been two months and change and I'm already doing better. Not perfect, that would be weird, but better. I suspect that having my dog here with me this week has helped with my happiness quotient.

Thank you for your kind words. I do wish I could say this was my first long term marriage that broke up, but it's not so I have a template. That actually helps too.

sad that they had to wait so long for this to happen. Jim Nabors' being gay was pretty much the worst kept secret in Hollywood. Much like Rock Hudson.
