A stupid question about revenge porn sites

Last edited Wed Jan 30, 2013, 01:31 AM - Edit history (1)

How do they verify ages? I admit I look at some online porn and every site I have ever been on has age verification of file which I thought was legally required. How does a revenge porn website comply with that law? On edit, I guess I am wondering why the real ones that are being sued can't be shutdown for violating this law.

I think it is illegal, unless the "victim" put the pic out there on the internets first.nt Honeycombe8 Jan 2013 #7
It's probably not illegal, but it is certainly actionable in civil court slackmaster Jan 2013 #10

There is a ton of free porn on the Internet. In order to make money in porn, you need a gimmicky theme or else target it toward a specific fetish. If someone wants to look at just porn, in general, there is no reason to pay for it.

So there are sites that have different "reality" themes which appeal to various sorts - e.g. "We find desperate straight guys and offer them money to have gay sex" or "wild college parties" and other sorts of propositions which are, in general, utter BS.

Sites operated in the US have to satisfy the 18 USC 2257 record keeping requirements, and the competition is not at all averse to dropping a dime on ones which don't.

On edit - oh, and, need some free advertising? Gin up a "controversy".

I suggest self-discipline as the first line of defense. Governments will always be impotent in this area.
