http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/29/jadin-bell-gay-oregon-teen-hanging-suicide-life-support-_n_2576404.html?utm_hp_ref=gay-voicesA gay Oregon teen was taken off of life support after hanging himself in the playground of a local elementary school.
Komo News reports that 15-year-old Jadin Bell attempted suicide by climbing on a playground structure and hanging himself. Family friend Bud Hill, who said his considered Bell his nephew, told the news station that the high school sophomore had been the victim of intense bullying both in person and on the Internet because he was gay.
"He was different, and they tend to pick on the different ones," Hill told the news station. He remembered Bell fondly: "If someone was down and out he would walk into a room and say a couple quick words and everybody would just forget about their problems and smile. He just had a gift."

Honestly a large part of me believes that the world would be vastly better off if instead of hanging himself Jadin had shot the ring leader of his bullies dead. We have had dozens of suicides by gay teens and still not one Congressional hearing has been held, not one. I bet if dozens of gay kids shot dozens of bullies in the last few years, Congress would have done something by now. The fact is the kids who bullied this kid killed him as surely as if they shot him in the head in a high school cafeteria. Yet the majority of this country still doesn't give a damn. There has still not be one, single solitary, GOP elected official who has made a It Gets Better video, not one. I am fed up with this.

(67,111 posts)Often the administrators and teachers turn their backs and often the bullies get a pat on the head. It's a fucken sick system. And there are a lot of fucken sick people in this country too.
There hasn't been a repig It Gets Better Video because the line they've all swallowed prevents them from human empathy.
Shooting the bullies would have done no good. Making sure the teachers and parents that let this happen know their guilt may make a small dent in the problem, but maybe not.
Telling the world about yet another senseless suicide opens the subject up yet again, and those who care will talk about it yet again.
Sorry I have nothing better to suggest.

(6,234 posts)To answer the (hopefully editted) statement: no, the world would not be a better place. You know that of course.
Teen years are tough for a lot of kids. Every classroom has some kids who are picked on and bullied, always mercilessly (because that's kinda the definition isn't it). Some of us here were bullied, and then we went home and suffered there as well. Sometimes, too often, kids kill themselves. Sometimes adults kill themselves. Hell, my father killed himself.
It's always a sad thing.
