It does not matter whether Roe V Wade is overturned or not because women have lost and are losing or have lost their reproductive rights in many states and in most rural areas of the country. Abortion may be a right and legal but it is becoming non existent in many areas of the country right now.
The GOP's war on women is succeeding by default. Each new anti abortion law that is passed diminishes women's right to control their health care. When you look at what is happening in Mississippi women have already lost. Because it is now impossible to pass any federal legislation helping women, the situation will and is deteriorating steadily.
Reactionary red states will begin arresting women and doctors where contraceptive or abortion services are offered. And women's clinics will continue to be closed. And these same state know that the federal government will not likely step in.
You can count on the fact that we will see hundreds more laws proposed and passed in the next couple of years abolishing womens rights.

(10,602 posts)I do not believe that Obama is the kind of president to interfere with the nullification that is going on. We are not in an era where you can send in federal marshal or even the National Guard like was done during the civil rights era. Obama is not a fighter and confronter. Because of who Obama is the red states and blue states where the GOP runs things will continue to pass unconstitutional laws and break federal regulations.
In that way we are in a civil war and secessionist period. If it is true that women are being arrested in places like Mississippi over miscarriages then "personhood laws" exist de facto rather than they are passed or not. The federal government has two choices either go to court or send in federal marshals to enforce the federal law.
