Senators Schumer and McCain: Immigration Reform Plan Is Not Amnesty

Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and John McCain (R-AZ) on Tuesday emphasized that the Senate's bipartisan immigration reform plan does not amount to amnesty for the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants.

"We do provide a path to citizenship, but not a path to citizenship that's easy," Schumer said on MSNBC "Morning Joe." "You have to work, pay taxes, you'll pay a fine, there'll be some admission of wrongdoing. It is not amnesty in any sense of the word. We're making that clear."

McCain agreed with Schumer, adding that the plan provides a "tough road to citizenship. You can't have 11 million people living in the shadows forever. That is a growing realization amongst our Republican friends."

I would contribute if it went directly to the people.

and make sure there are plenty of people who can give TRUE AND ACCURATE info and in language all can understand. (no lawyer speak).

So I would hire thousands of federal agents country wide to deal with this
(and make sure they are well trained so that they are friendly faces and not scary authority.)

Let's make this as easy and stress free as possible.

And there is prescendent- Jimmy Carter did this for those that protested the war in his term.
