Most are probably proclaimed by some industry or trade association or interest group.
Might also add that it is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.

(23,500 posts)I can't imagine very many people are using their barbecues this week.
I actually did barbecue a steak last weekend, but we're in California and it was still pretty damn cold out.

(30,947 posts)but cloudy, so it will seem cooler. And will be rainy Wednesday and then the 50s the rest of the week. I do not like 70 degrees. This is winter and I like the cold temperatures.

(113,576 posts)What the hay is Meat Week?
Meat Week is a national holiday started in 2005. Each January, for 8 consecutive nights, people across the country gather over piles of BBQ. In every participating city, there is a devoted Captain who creates the schedule of restaurants. Each city develops their own traditions, but Meat Week typically focuses on good ol' American BBQ: Pork, ribs, brisket, barbecued chicken, and anything else you can smoke and smother in sauce.
well, looking at the map, my community is not doing anything. on the other hand, there are only two bbq places in town, and neither is that good.

(149 posts)I love the tv-watching potential of winter. Hibernation takes on a new meaning now. After I finish Fringe....SG-1, etc., will constitute my watch list.
I AM a fan of the Amduat, the Egyptian Book of the Dead. It's a tremendously useful guide for the living as well as the dead!! Facing one's Apophis (nemesis) can be a be a bracing and transformational experience.
