It's hard to describe what we're dealing with here. This is far, far too funny to laugh at. This is post-funny. http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/338142/are-frat-brothers-natural-conservatives-betsy-woodruff
Fine bromance

This is amazing, even for the National Review (via):

Are Frat Brothers Natural Conservatives?
For many, the Greek system may offer a respite from liberal academia.
By Betsy Woodruff
As college students head back to school for spring semester, most will enter largely anti-conservative atmospheres. But for many, the Greek system may offer a respite from the typical environment of academia or at least a safe and non-judgmental place to believe in limited government and free enterprise.
[....]
Its an interesting phenomenon if thats the right word and its reflected, to an extent, in students spending habits. Madison Wickham is one of the founders of TotalFratMove.com, a website of dubious literary and educational value that provides content targeted at members of the Greek community. He tells National Review Online that merchandise pitched to conservatives such as shirts that say Mitts the Tits and Back to Back World War Champs sells briskly, suggesting that the Greek system contains a strong contingent of young people who lean unabashedly right.

Whatever. We do love to perpetuate myths.

(6,363 posts)my son attends one of those east coast schools whose name always gets tossed around in the laundry list of liberal institutions.
Com'on, you've got to be kidding. I spend most of every dinner during his breaks at home in full metal reprogramming mode. What scares me most is not that he's learning isn't about factual inaccuracies, it seems to be about creating a logic system that makes it OK to be blind to what's going on in this country.
It makes me totally f'ing crazy that he can sit there and rationally articulate why it's ok for there to be so many hungry people on the streets of what we believe is the greatest country in the world. He had a great logic flow but it always seemed to float between the real world that the fantasy world of hypothetical.
The good news is that by the end of breaks he seems to be back to normal and, as he approaches senior year, he's finally starting to show some signs of being able to spot the bizzaro-ness of his own arguments. If he's learned one thing it seems to be in answer to the questions "are you even listening to the absolute crap your saying ?"
Damn I thought this parenting thing would end at some point. I now realize it's a life sentence.

(38,437 posts)This school has the most aggressive diversity policies (and putting their money where their policy is) of any college in the country. He came out of that school not only educated but ragingly liberal -- way to the left of me.
If I gave you ten guesses, you might nail down his school.
I work in academe, on my third large university. Each one more conservative than the one before. I am now in rightwing hell. Gratefully, I never talk politics at work, so it has no bearing on my productivity.

(25,949 posts)When I was an undergrad, my most despised classes were macro and microeconomics - due in no small part to the Laffer-worshiping supply-sided professor who would tolerate no dissent in her class...that plus my opinion, shared by Thomas Carlyle, that economics is 'the dismal science.'

(6,539 posts)If being conservative means you can find a way to get around adult rules, then I was an ultra-conservative young adult.
But I wasn't... this article is full of fail.
