the reality is that abortions occur at the same rate, pretty much, whether they are legal or not.
So, the GOP has announced its latest war - because no one will vote for them unless they can join together in yet another hatefest.
They're doing this, also, in hopes that they can appeal to Hispanic voters, whom, they assume, share this hatred of women.

The GOP, in the person of their speaker, has stated that one of their top priorities is to make sure more women die than live if they have an abortion.
GOP- I would say fuck you, but I wouldn't come near anyone with this hateful attitude toward women.
I will tell you, however, that I hope it's not one of your daughters who dies from a botched abortion. Oh wait - we know that won't happen because you'll use the privilege that money brings to make sure your daughter has a safe abortion - because that's how you function - you'll support something if you think it will get you votes from the unreconstructed assholes of this nation because you know yu won't be held to the same law.
Go to hell, GOP.

(692 posts)My Great-Aunt was married to a wealthy man...not a Vanderbilt or anyone like that, but they were pretty well off, but he was an asshole and used to beat her up (from what my mother and her daughter have told me). She found out she was pregnant again with his child and she refused to have the baby. She couldn't find anyone to help her have the abortion, so she tried to do it herself and she bled out. Must've been a horrible way to go, plus knowing that she would be leaving her 7 year old daughter.
I'm not in favor of abortions...except in rape/incest & danger to mother, only because of how many people want to be parents but can't. I'm for adoption first, but I'm vehemently pro-choice! I would never tell someone what to do with their bodies.

(5,453 posts)Our base is dying.
We can't talk real issues because we've been in a bubble so long we don't know what reality is.
We want you to forget our main goal is to protect the status quo of the wealthy and powerful.
The solution? Bring back that old classic from our hit collection of Social Issues - Democrats are evil, blood-sucking, godless baby killers! That'll get 'em back in our flock!

(28,784 posts)You would think they wouldn't be this stupid, considering that the "legitimate rape" mindset lost big time in the last election.
This is what leads me to believe they are hoping to appeal to Hispanic voters with this issue. Hispanics, however, also support safe and legal abortion.
74% of Latino registered voters agree that a woman has a right to make her own personal, private decisions about abortion without politicians interfering.
http://latinainstitute.org/Latinopoll
Exit poll results found that about two-thirds of Hispanics (66%) said that abortion should be legal while 28% disagreed. Among all voters, a somewhat smaller majority (59%) would allow legal abortions while 37% were opposed.
There is no gender gap on views on abortion among Hispanics or among all voters, according to national exit polling. About two-thirds of men (64%) and Latino women (67%) would permit legal abortion, as would 58% of all male voters nationally and 60% of women.

But this is the party that wants to teach children that Jesus rode dinosaurs, so, obviously, reality isn't the point for them.
that's why I say they are trying to appeal to the segment of the population that hates women.

(5,453 posts)Course it's basically the same thing - without fear there would be no hate.
So they are left with misogynists, religious wackos and Fox News viewers; most of whom belong to all three group.
The Republisaurs are dying off, and it's about time.
