The Weather Channel has ratcheted things up a bit too far.
I hear on the radio that my area may get an inch of snow so I decide to see what the Weather Channel website has to say.
The Weather Channel decided this year to name winter storms like they were hurricanes. (This makes the government seem ridiculous, as most viewers will assume the names are official.)
And the Weather Channel isn't interested in names like Agnes and Sandy. The winter storm names are good scary names.
The inch of snow bearing down on me like a runaway train, for instance, is named Khan.
Last week it was Iago. Seriously... Iago. Draco? Brutus? Hat-tip to bluenorthwest for pointing me to this graphic:
When facing one's certain death at the hands of a thing named Khan one wants to be up to date. So I click on the hourly forecast.
Under each hour forecast is an option to show the 15 minute forecast. Yes... the 15 minute forecast. On the one hand, I realize this is from the government and it's cool and all that, but except for a specific tornado or fast moving thunderstorm on the ground right now being tracked on radar, 15 minute forecasting is absurd.
The forecast for 5:30 PM today is eeriely similar to the forecast for 5:45 PM.

I think the expectation is that winter storms will become increasingly more severe, so they want to track them, hence the names. And they probably picked bizarro names since the more normal ones are already taken by hurricanes. But the constant coverage is over the top and silly.
