Reid just cratered PBO's second term and most probably will cause the Dems to lose in 2016.
My thinking is that if the Repugs keep up with their old tricks and continue to stonewall on anything Obama - the country won't come out of the Bush era caused problems - PBO will get the blame - and the American People will buy the Repugs story that its Obama and the Dems fault = and they will elect a Repug president in 2016 with the help of some of the states messing with the electoral votes.
The celebration is over and just a couple of days after the inauguration.
Thank you Harry Reid.

(37,573 posts)now the Senate will not be able to pass all that progressive legislation that they will get from the House.
you must have forgot the sarcasm tag

(37,573 posts)I am quite sure the House is gonna pass
single payer
abolish the Bush tax cuts
slash defense spending and outlaw war
legalize gay marriage at the Federal level
a Constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United
an increase in the minimum wage
a WPA jobs program investing in infrastructure for solar and wind energy
a carbon tax
card check
a Wall stree transaction tax
especially now that Kucinich is no longer there to table anything remotely progressive
and now all of that will just languish in the Senate thanks to Harry Reid.

(22,000 posts)Especially the Supreme Court can be blocked by the Repukes. Someone should skewer Reid because he burned us.

(36,974 posts)The Senate rules (no matter what they are) have nothing to do with The House,
therefore the Republicans in the House will still continue to obstruct no matter what The Senate does.

(40,416 posts)On second thought, maybe we ought to see how this plays out before we give up.
I don't like this deal any more than anybody else. But, I am not willing to presume that Barack Obama's overwhelming reelection didn't have some political influence on our GOP opponents. Consider also the fact that nobody was predicting Dems would actually gain seats in the Senate.
I think people should calm down about this and especially should not presume that they already know the outcome. Politics is a very messy affair. Let's let this pan out before we portray it as a crushing loss.
Thanks. I will even give you an R&K to show my good faith, but I do not agree with your projections.
I do not think Reid caved. I think he made a deal.

(36,974 posts)... have NOTHING to do with The House.
Even IF there had been 'extreme filibuster reform' in The Senate - then The House would still be the same ol' BS as it has been the past four years!
But they should have at least changed the rules for blocking and filibustering nominations.

Just sayin'.

(9,033 posts)if the Senators could point to good bills they PASSED, and good people they confirmed, while the Repukes in the House continued with their usual BS.
But now, of course, all of Congress will continue to be painted with the same "worthless" brush. Way not to inspire people to get out and vote...and we know we win when the people vote.

(493 posts)Refusing to make meaningful reform in the Senate just because of the make up of the House is just an excuse. In the 111th Congress Dems controlled the Senate, House and Executive. Reid's failure to stop filibuster threats didn't do any good then either, and IMO, was one of the main reasons for the defeats of 2010. If the Repubs were in this position the filibuster would be radically changed. Why Reid does what he does is not as important as What he does.

(11,464 posts)once again another downer anti-democratic post.
of course President Obama roped the dopes and the cutten runners, sad sams and debbie downers again and again and again and will continue to do so.
10 steps forward and zero steps back.
I used to assume every democratic person was able to see the 9step ahead chess game.
silly me to assume that.
well, at least I do.
Hillary45 to continue the President Obama agenda for 8 more years after 1/20/2017.

(327 posts)Mr Reid,
Please resign from the Democratic Party ASAP; you and you alone have done more to advance the Republican Agenda than any other Senator. You are an embarrassment to the party and the nation.
Your deal with McConnell ensures that nothing will be accomplished the next 2 years thanks to you.
I hope you are happy.
Hopefully you will leave the Democratic Party by the end of the week.
Oh yeah pass on to your money pals, because that is ALL that interests you, no more money from me to the DNC and DCSS thanks to you and your DINO, Blue Dog ilk.

(36,974 posts)Even IF the extreme Merkley senate rules change plan had been voted on and passed, it would have had NO effect on The House and the obstruction of the house republicans.
