What is a "caretaker" Presidency?
It is one where the President in power simply holds the office until the next President takes power. Some might say that Bill Clinton was a "caretaker" President? He never made any great changes of note, other than the FMLA legislation. He only held the office until George W Bush and the Repubs took over and they made historical changes, and they were not good for this country.
Most DUers, in my opinion, do not want this President to simply hold the office for the next four years and then turn it over to some right-wing Republican. They want him to accomplish things for the people that voted him into office. They want Senators and Congressmen that will fight for these changes.
Why should they fight for these changes? Because the country and the people need them. Those that are happy with the status quo and the caretaker aspect of governing don't seem to really care?

(11,464 posts)and it keeps seeming so many democratic senators want to leave the senate and do others things.
Since when is being senator and governor a bad job for Democratic senators and governors and why don't we win more of them?

(11,464 posts)Voting for Nader allowed him to reap $$$millions$$$ and keep the whine going
anyone who fell for his republican financed crap and then whines is wanting to whine
Ralph himself of course is an intellectually lazy man, not actually wanting to do any grunt work.
No grunt, just whine.
Could have run for senate or house, but that would have taken actual work.
Same with anyone who voted for Perot or John Anderson or George Wallace or Alf Landon.
easier to whine that way.

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.~John Quincy Adams
btw, if only democratic voters did not toss LBJ into the river in 1968, he would have beaten Nixon and then never would Reagan/Ford/41/43 ever been president nor would Jeb be the #1 probability for nominee of the repubs in 2016.
so anything bad would have been erased nationally had that happened
(especially as Nixon sabatoged the peace talks in Vietnam, as did Reagan/Bush sabatoge Jimmy Carter the same way in 1980).
