en. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) is expected to bring a bunch of assault weapons including a Bushmaster rifle like the one used to slaughter 20 children in Newtown, Connecticut to the Senate on Thursday when she introduces a bill to ban the military-style weapons.
Democratic sources told CNN on Thursday that Feinsteins staff had coordinated completely Washington Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Capitol Police to ensure that the transport and display of the weapons was legal under current law.
NBC host David Gregory had recently narrowly avoided prosecution after he allegedly broke D.C. law by holding up a high-capacity magazine to make a point during an interview with National Rifle Association (NRA) head Wayne LaPierre.
Im told that she will have more than one assault weapon, CNNs Dana Bash reported on Thursday. And shes going to have them on display
The reason she is going to do this, Im told, is to show specifically her fellow Democrats conservative Democrats, which there are half a dozen [or] even more very reluctant to do anything to change the assault weapons laws that you dont need these kinds guns in the hands of regular, ordinary, average people.

Are you one of those guys who thinks Obama is an "elitist" for having Secret Service protect his children?

(18,655 posts)I believe the President of the USA would qualify as a person who needs more security than the average person. Over 10% of those who have held the job have been assassinated or had attempted assassination. I see no issue extending the security to his immediate family.

I don't see the bill on THOMAS yet.

(30,252 posts)But it doesn't matter what the details are - I'm afraid the bill isn't going anywhere. There seems to be more support for increasing background checks at gun shows, and that legislation will probably pass both Houses and wind up on Obama's desk.
