Loyalty oaths and harsh restrictions on legal activities of a despised minority group (smokers)? Has a familiar ring to me.

else to pay them.

I think the Oregon law is a great idea. If the cannabis in marijuana is available to people only on prescription, why shouldn't the far more addictive drug, nicotine in cigarettes, also be limited for people with prescriptions?

Nicotine is a very addictive drug that can be used as an insecticide. It's a poison. People who smoke just don't want to understand that.

And tell me how a smoker who drops dead of a heart attack, or even lung cancer, at 62 cost more in health care than a non-smoker who lives to be 85, with all the associated ailments.

that are expensive.

My great-grandfather smoked a pipe and lived until nearly 100. He was a statistical exception.

Smoking kills a high percentage of people. Check out your likelihood of cancer and other lung diseases if you smoke or inhale second-hand smoke.

Further, nicotine is extremely addictive. Generally addictive substances are controlled by law. I'm not sure I think that all of them should be, but why are alcohol and tobacco excepted from the laws controlling addictive substances? They are extremely addictive. Tobacco has terrible health effects, and alcohol has all kinds of bad effects including changing a person's mental state and capacity.

If Oregonians want to limit access to cigarettes, they should be able to do that. In particular, by requiring a prescription, they could prevent new addicts.

Leftists

German communists were among the first people to be sent to concentration camps.[22][23] They concerned Hitler due to their ties with the Soviet Union and because the Nazi Party was intractably opposed to communism. Rumors of pending communist violence were started by the Nazis as justification for the Enabling Act of 1933, the law which gave Hitler his original dictatorial powers. Hermann Göring later testified at the Nuremberg Trials that it was the Nazis' willingness to repress German communists that prompted Hindenburg and the old elite to cooperate with them. Hitler and the Nazis also hated German leftists because of their resistance to Nazi racism. Many leaders of German leftist groups were Jews who were especially prominent among the leaders of the Spartacist Uprising in 1919. Hitler referred to Marxism and "Bolshevism" as a means of "the international Jew" to undermine "racial purity" and survival of the Nordics or Aryans (sometimes of all white Europeans), as well as stirring up socioeconomic class tension and labor unions against the government or relevant businesses. Within concentration camps such as Buchenwald, German communists were privileged in comparison to Jews because of their "racial purity."[citation needed] Whenever the Nazis occupied a new territory, members of communist, socialist, or anarchist groups were thus normally among the first to be repressed, including summary executions. An example of this is Hitler's infamous Commissar Order in which he demanded the summary execution of all political commissars captured among Soviet soldiers.[24]

Tens of thousands of socialists and communists were murdered by the fascists regimes of the era, and socialists and communists joined and lead resistance movements across occupied europe.

What you stated was explicitly offensive, as explained. It is also a favorite rightwing meme, that somehow fascism was a leftwing ideology.

"pogram" (sic) would not have helped. What you could have said instead was 'authoritarianism".

Do you seriously believe they want to make cigarettes a prescription drug because they hate the people who smoke?

But, hey, lets pretend you are serious and continue the analogy. What if a person stops smoking? What do you suppose they are going to do to that person then?

They hate these people, right? So obviously they aren't going to let them off the hook that easily. That would be like a Confederate freeing African slaves who say they hate other Black people and believe that Normans were the greatest people on Earth. Or Nazis ignoring every Jew and Slav who said Germans were the superior race (they accepted a few to be used for practical purposes, but most were not given a choice).
