Chris Christie rips President Obama's inaugural speech as 'a manifesto'

Chris Christie rips President Obama's inaugural speech as 'a manifesto'

by Jed Lewison

Guess who apparently misses the love from his Republican base? New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, that's who:

Speaking on 101.5FM, the governor accused Obama of perpetuating the gridlock in Washington by failing to bring the nation and both political parities together. He narrowed his focus on the president’s second inaugural address, which Christie indicated was too polarizing.

“Instead of trying to bring people together it was a manifesto for, ‘Hey, it’s my way or the highway,’” Christie said on the monthly radio program Ask the Governor.

Hmm. Obama's inaugural speech was a manifesto? And his message to the nation was that everybody better get prepared to do things his way? Scary! But the good news is that a brave man named Chris is willing to stand up to Dear Leader—and challenge un-American statements like this:

We recognize that no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us at any time may face a job loss, or a sudden illness, or a home swept away in a terrible storm.

If that line from the president's inaugural speech doesn't convince you that Chris Christie is right, I don't know what will. Perhaps this one?

We, the people, still believe that our obligations as Americans are not just to ourselves, but to all posterity. We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations. Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires and crippling drought and more powerful storms.

Nope, that won't convince you either. Because as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie knows, the only thing worse than using a storm as an excuse to justify delivering aid to its victims is using a storm to justify policies that would make future storms less severe and damaging. As the governor said, Obama's speech truly was a manifesto: a manifesto of one man seeking to impose his will on an unsuspecting nation.

Thankfully, American heroes Republican politicians like Chris Christie have the courage to stand up and speak truth to power try to preserve their viability in the GOP's 2016 presidential primary.

No way their base nominates him, especially with his anti-gun credentials.

I think his only chance to be president is to shut the hell up, and look for a third party.
In a Dem or GOP primary, he would be youtubed right out of the water. He has kindly provided ammunition for primary challenges in both parties.
And I believe Christie is quite proud about being a "my way or the highway" type of guy.

His is opportunism all the way. But he has a delicate dance to perform until his re-election day because too much Obama bashing will mean that Democrats sit home, while teathugs follow zombie Rand Paul's demand to exact punishment by trying to primary him.
