Readers sue Lance Armstrong for book refund after doping admission

Rob Stutzman doesn't buy too many books.

But he not only read Lance Armstrong's bestseller "It's Not About the Bike" cover to cover, he also recommended it to several friends.

Now, the public affairs consultant from Sacramento, California, wants his money back, and he wants the disgraced cyclist to pony up.

Stutzman is part of a class-action lawsuit against Armstrong and his book publishers accusing them of peddling fiction as fact.

The lawsuit, filed this week in federal court in California, also mentions Armstrong's other book, "Every Second Counts," and accuses the cyclist and his publishers of fraud and false advertising.

Apparently Stutzman is a Republican PR agent, per a search of his name in DU, as he's done PR for Arnold Schwarzenegger (in politics not entertainment) and Meg Whitman (again when MW ran for governor, not as tech executive). I found another DU thread listing Stutzman as chair of some org "Protection of Marriage Committee".

In fact back in 1991 a class action lawsuit against Milli Vanilli (the pop singers who didn't really sing on their album) led to partial refunds of album or ticket prices for participants. Hell, YouTube even has an old TV commercial from the time about the lawsuit:

2. So... You buy, and then read a book.

Then when the author is not to your liking you want your money back, even though you read it.

To me it's like going to see a movie. You bought your ticket, got your popcorn and soda. You then sit down and watch the whole movie. Then demand your money back because you personally don't like the script writer.

Or like eating a meal and demanding your money back because you disagree with the chef.

I've read many a shitty book, or have disliked an artist after buying their work. Still does not change the fact that I have already consumed and absorbed the art. Good or bad, I have consumed it.
