Ryan said earned entitlements such as Social Security — where you pay your payroll taxes during your working like to get a benefit when you retire — are “not taker programs.”

“When the president does kind of a switcheroo like that, what he’s trying to say is that we are maligning these programs that people have earned throughout their working lives,” he said. “So it’s kind of a convenient twist of terms to try and shadowbox a straw man in order to win an argument by default.”

Q Jay, do you have a reaction to Congressman Paul Ryan saying that the President used a “straw man” argument in his inaugural address when he talked about the fact that the United States is not a nation of takers? Congressman Ryan has said that the President misconstrued what he meant, what Ryan meant when he used that term, “nation of takers.”

MR. CARNEY: Well, I’m not sure that President mentioned Chairman Ryan, but that phrase has been used by a number of Republicans, including Paul Ryan.

2. Once again, I was trying to play catch up when I got home...

I saw something about Beyonce...thought it was a joke and just passed it by. Dear God...it was real???? Are you serious!

Holy Shit....let's just sit back and watch the show. These guys have nothing anymore. Not one thing! They're most serious concern is Beyonce lip-syncing? They are Imploding here, and damn I just love that picture in my head!

It's bunk. That lady was singing live. She sang to a prerecorded track—a canned band—and perhaps there was a guide vocal in her earpiece, audible only to her, but that was absolutely a genuine performance.

Kelly Clarkson performed to a prerecorded track, too. So did the choir.
