You know who deserves a lot of credit for the return of the progressive agenda

Keith Olbermann - damn I still miss him. He did a lot to put the liberal agenda back on the front page and he tore the Wingnuts a new one night after night.

Even when he was a sportscaster he was a flaming asshat. His style did nothing for us

but he was the only one calling out Bush and Cheney when most everyone else felt it was necessary to salute.

The edit is because I couldn't resist.

ultimatums. . . .

He was the FIRST to call out ON TV the neo-cons and the disastrous Iraq invasion. He called out Rummy for calling dissent Un-American and for that I will forever thank him.

...before Keith, MSNBC had the likes of Alan Keyes, Laura Ingraham and Michael Weiner. Pitchfork Pat was a "moderate". Keith was truly a lone voice in the wilderness and had to restrain himself. I recall an email he responded to a DU'er explaining how he had to tread carefully and if he got viewer support he would take more chances...which he did. Credit also goes to Phil Griffin who was KO's big ally in those early days. The two of them should get credit for bringing Rachel over as well as many of the regular "contributors" we see today.

It was a shame to see Keith burn out...which he had done at ESPN and it happened in his first MSNBC tour in the 90s and then again in recent years and then at Current. I think his downfall was getting too wrapped up in the personal side of the biz...the clash of egos and wasn't able to play well with others. I figure he'll make a great instructor at Cornell...

Sharpton still keep the light on, but Olbermann's brand of humor is unmatched.
