I'm from Raleigh, and I went to that gun show this morning. There is no "storage" of guns here. What happens is you give your pistol over to a law enforcement officer, who is supposed to check that the gun is unloaded, and then uses a zip tie to secure the weapon and make sure it is unusable. The owner of the weapon handed the gun over to the cop, the cop failed to check the chamber, pulled the zip tie tight around the trigger, and bang. The cop shot two people because he failed to follow th...more

Has yielded some interesting expressions of human nature for sure.

They may not have made the headlines. They may not have lots of material wealth. They may not be in our "ruling class". But I have met some damned fine Americans.

And further, I acknowledge that HUGE sacrifices have been made in the past to give us the wealth we enjoy today. The fact that we aren't learning and applying the wisdom gained to produce widespread prosperity and a sustainable future, but are being bogged down in greed and short sighted gain, is what is supremely FUCKED UP.

Is that it's actually EASIER to succeed. The majority of citizens actually put up with the corruption. It's a slow slide to hell, but a slide nonetheless.

And as a race, I doubt if we'll ever see our planet and ourselves as a single organism. But we really are. Some sort of survival programming in the ego perhaps?

And the real mindfuck is, that even though I'm NOT religious, it turns out that Jesus was right all along. Love your neighbor as yourself. Been saying it for centuries. Mindfuck #2 - "Religious" people are the WORST violators!!

You never ever ever put your shotgun into a case when it is loaded.

Steps when using a shotgun ..... remove shotgun from case, make sure
it is not loaded ..... load the shotgun when you are ready to go hunting
or to shoot some skeet ..... do not have a shell in the chamber until you
are ready to shoot ...... after you are done MAKE SURE THE SHOTGUN
IS EMPTY .... IN MY CASE IT IS A PUMP ACTION SO I PUMP IT AT LEAST
2 OR 3 TIMES AFTER THE LAST SHELL HAS BEEN EJECTED ....... put the
shotgun back into its case ...... when you get home make sure to dry off
any water droplets from the gun and make sure it is cleaned .... put the
empty gun back into the case ..... trigger locks if you have any children
in the house.

problem is MORE gun shows! It'll only be a matter of time before they all disappear and the problem solves itself.

Or not being able to count votes at your own GOP primaries. Or getting caught committing voter fraud after accusing your opponents of doing it.

I think it's the children of Reagan who make up the majority of the modern Democratic party. The modern Republican party is made up of... i don't know... the children of the brother that Bork thought was a right-wing whacko?

why they didn't just take their guns out for a nice lunch and perhaps a massage afterward.

Public places can be rented in some cases, and if access is free and requiring a permit, I don't see any reason why a gun show is different than anything else. I think you're picking the wrong battle there - maybe you just don't want gun shows (I'm not even completely certain what a gun show entails, to be honest).

at any other types of shows on public property, just at the gun shows.

Illinois is thinking about passing legislaion making it illegal to have gun shows on public property. It was on the local news last night! That said, maybe I'm not the only one having a problem with this. . .

disallowing gun shows on public property isn't going to stop that. It just seems like window-dressing to me, ignoring the real problem.

Rental money rollin in from renting a campus building to the Dixie gun show is a good thing. But this incident will probably sidetrack some administrators in the coming week/weeks - and might prompt questions about 'do they rent space to the show in the future?'

You know, these shorts of shootings are becoming almost pathological, like it really is a disease. In the same way that an addict abuses alcohol or drugs, there may indeed be a class of people for whom access to guns is, no joking, dangerous. They can no sooner handle guns safely than an alcoholic an drink safely. Maybe it's social status, economic status, political belief, growing up near toxic dumps, low IQ, whatever. We mock people like the clown at the JC Penney, but maybe it really is a sickness.

137. We need a "Hand Grenade Appreciation Day"
Sun Jan 20, 2013, 04:13 PM

In a secure building people who have an appreciation for grenades should be able to inspect and hold them.

Could even have a few events like an egg toss but use live grenades.

How about a contest to see how many times you can pull the pin out of grenade and put it back in and not drop it with in one minute.

(would have to have cameras to pick out the winner after the fact.

You know that if they had a "Hand Grenade Appreciation Day" a whole bunch of sickos would show up.
