TN lawmaker responsible for bill to allow guns in bars, pleads guilty to DUI and weapons charge

You can't make this stuff up: January 18, 2012
NASHVILLE, Tennessee — State Rep. Curry Todd pleaded guilty Friday to drunken driving and gun charges and was sentenced to 48 hours in jail and the loss of his firearm for a year.

The Collierville Republican was arrested in October 2011 in Nashville after failing a roadside sobriety test. A loaded .38-caliber gun was found stuffed between the driver's seat and center console.

Todd, who is best known for sponsoring a law that allows people with handgun carry permits to be armed in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, told reporters after the court hearing that he has no plans to resign.

I've always found that we're molded and shaped by experiences in life, both Todd said. "And it's my intention to use this experience over the last 15 months to become a more knowledgeable and effective representative of the people of this state."

Todd, 65, is a former Memphis police officer who once played basketball for the University of Memphis. He resigned as chairman of the House State and Local Government Committee following his arrest.

such as DUI and gun charges, they should be kicked out of the legislature. He's not fit to tie his shoes, let alone govern.

implied consent charge. (I think that's like the di when u don't blow). He agreed to have the car monitor thing you blow into. I just thought of something. When I looked into the handgun laws here in TN it said if you're a drug addict who goes to jail or seek treatment for drug abuse your license is pulled for 10 yrs. I wonder if the real reason they dropped the dui is because it would affect his gun rights. I'll look it up.

If it's your job to create laws and you end up serving prison time breaking them then you're not fit for public service. The only thing he learned is to avoid get caught.

At least they took away his firearms license for a year.
