A Constitutionally protected medical procedure can only be obtained in 13% of the counties ...

in the United States. I'm talking, of course, about abortion. Now close your eyes, and imagine the full-on, frothing-at-the-mouth, FoxNews-fueled frenzy that would ensue if the Constitutionally protected right to obtain a firearm was limited to 13% of the country. Shove that little statistic up the ass of the next "small government conservative" who wants unfettered access to an AK-47, but demands state mandated ultrasounds for any woman seeking to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.

After 11 years, I'm still not certain where on the DU spectrum I fit. I own guns, I hunt, and I and believe I should be allowed to do so; but I also think that the NRA is nothing more than a blood-drenched conglomeration of whores for the gun manufacturers. Furthermore, I strongly support mandatory registration and banning of high capacity magazines, all which I think would place me in the moderate middle of the gun question.

But I freely admit to being a flat-out, uncompromising, fucking radical with regard to a woman's right to choose. Her body, her decision - End. Of. Fucking. Discussion.

I guess that makes me fairly difficult to pigeonhole, but such is (or at least used to be) the beauty of DU.

Can't buy a gun, except where abortions are legal.

However, I think we all would be better off if the gun sales/abortion numbers were reversed. Any woman could get an abortion at most any medical facility anywhere in the country and gun/weapon sales were as restricted as abortions are now.

Works for me.

they only represent a portion of white men are trying to reclaim their dominance in this country. They want weapons, they want to show women that they can control them and should fear them. It may sound radical, and I would have thought so myself a year ago, but look at the recent posts. They're going after girl scouts for goodness sake. What they don't realize is that they're a small portion of the white male demographic, most are reasonable and not threatened by anyone else. They have claimed to be "leading" this country back to it's glory days. You're an infantryman. How long before they run out of money and turn around to realize no one is following?

As a first step we should probably have police officers guarding any clinic or medical establishment where abortions are performed so that we can actually attempt to guarantee what is a constitutionally protected right. We've been down this road before. We had to have federal troops escort children into schools to enforce the desegregation of schools; perhaps we need something similar in this case. I haven't done it yet, but I feel like I should stand in front of Planned Parenthood and counter protest the anti-abortion extremists who stand in front of them.
