Date of Confirmation Hearing for Senator Kerry?

Have they been set?

I am just asking because resident GOP strategist and columnist Chabot from the Boston Herald is boasting that the GOP will block the hearings until February to give the GOP Senate candidate an advantage.

Indeed, this would push the election up to July, with (as she says) people at the Cape for vacations.

Chabot does not have enough clout to know that for a fact, but, as I have not seen any date set and it is still unclear to me who is responsible for setting this date (SFRC Chairman Kerry probably does not want to delay them), I thought I would ask to well informed people.

I can't see how an advantage would be conferred in that fashion.

WASHINGTON — US Senator John F. Kerry will appear before fellow members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at 10 a.m. Jan. 24 for his confirmation hearing to serve as secretary of state, according to a Senate aide.

The hearing will be chaired by Senator Robert Menendez, the New Jersey Democrat who is expected to become committee chairman upon Kerry’s elevation to President Obama’s cabinet and his subsequent resignation from the Senate.

The new election is set based on the date the senator resigned, not the day he got a new job.

So one hopes that Kerry would resign his senate seat timed however would best serve the party in Mass.
