Now that is really hutzpah.
How can the GOP support so many assinine positions and get elected to anything. I cannot believe we have so many stupid voters. Apparently this idea has come up with the introduction of a national "personhood" law by Ryan.

(10,960 posts)One can debate what is the right thing to choose to do, in terms of a spouse, but as a matter of law... as a matter of state compulsion, if a woman wants an abortion then the altrnative is to compell her to carry a baby to term against her will.
I can't buy that in any circumstance.
I stand with whatever the heck Diane Keaton's character was named in the Godfather movies.

(14,177 posts)Or would he say she got all bruised and stuff from consensual sex? Or the drug accidentally got in her drink? Or would the rapist say that an absence of a no means yes (in cases where the woman was asleep or drunk on her own), or whatever freakin excuse the rapist can come up with. I have heard some doozies.
And how would this work anyway if a woman's husband or boyfriend can't sue to stop an abortion?

(46,359 posts)In an unsurprising turn of events, Ryan has signed on as cosponsor to the Sanctity of Human Life Act again. The original bill which declares that life begins with fertilization, and would give states the right to ban all abortion, even in the cases involving incest, rape, or the life of the mother thankfully died in Congress in 2011.
But now it's baaaaack, which is scary because not only is the above terrifying, there's all sorts of other creepy shit hidden in this monster. Like, if a woman who was raped in a state that banned abortions went to a state that didn't ban abortions and had an abortion? Her rapist could theoretically sue to stop the abortion from happening, and probably win. And it doesn't stop there with the reproductive weirdness, if passed, it'll probably make many forms of IVF illegal.

"How can the GOP support so many assinine positions and get elected to anything."
Perhaps because there are a fair number of asinine American voters and thru a number of dirty tricks they manage to get over-represented in government?
