Pledge of Allegiance complaint sends deputy to school

Pledge of Allegiance complaint sends deputy to Geneva school

Kane County Sheriff’s police assigned a deputy to Mill Creek Elementary School near Geneva Thursday after a disturbance at the school Wednesday when a parent complained children weren’t reciting the Pledge of Allegiance correctly, officials said.

Geneva District 304 officials released a statement late Thursday morning explaining a parent used “language that is not typically heard in a school setting” in the library in front of a kindergarten class. School officials called police to “minimize the disruption,” according to the release.

Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler said the parent was volunteering at the school during the time afternoon kindergarten students start their day and saying the pledge.

That evening, the same parent emailed school board members, administrators and some parents in the community, and also posted a message on Facebook, claiming Mill Creek students state the Pledge of Allegiance incorrectly, leaving out the word “liberty,” among other claims, according to district officials.

My younger daughter recites the pledge at school. It's hilarious to hear her try to say it. And the "L" sound in Liberty is a hard one for some younger kids to say.

I don't think the deputy was sent because the kids were saying it wrong, but because of the insane parent.

The parent was freaking out, so they (rightly, IMHO) called for law enforcement.

complaining because kindergarten children don't say the pledge correctly? are you KIDDING me?

seriously, I think someone needs to have cps check out that home. there are some serious control issues with that person, and, frankly, I worry for any children of that person.

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
