But in fact I really can't see what has been accomplished other than justifying the salaries and jobs of the military brass. We keep killing the second in command of Al Qaeda over and over. He always has a different name, but he is always the second in command. The more we "eradicate" terrorism, the more terrorists there are, it seems. It's very frustrating. I have to ask whether our current military organization is capable of actually moving us and the world toward peace and stability.

People objected to the Viet Nam War because Viet Nam did not seem like a credible threat to us.

The fanatical Muslim terrorists appear to be a credible threat not just to us but to the world, but it seems to me that perhaps attempting to stop their threat by military means is just not effective. The more we fight them, the more of them there are. Perhaps I am wrong about that, but it seems that way to me.

I just think there must be some more realistic, effective strategy. I don't know what it is. But we seem to just keep doing the same unworkable things over and over.

It seems to me that in spite of all the lives and treasure lost in Iraq, it is no more our ally than it was before 2003. What did we really gain there? The country does not even seem to be all that stable. Guns and killing may not be a solution to the problems the world faces today.

Can anyone persuade me otherwise? I'm quite willing to listen to other ideas.

...I think the figure is more like $285 million a day, i.e. $2 billion a week. Yes, it's an insane injustice in the name of the American People. And so many of our young men have been sacrificed, with their lives, their limbs and their minds. The poverty rate in this country is one of the highest, if not THE highest, in the industrialized countries of the world. And GWB and his cabal started it all. And here we are. More than flat broke, middle class disappearing, and they are trying to take the safety net. Bank thieves are running free and getting more and more breaks, not one of them top SOB's in jail. We all might as well move back to the country where we might be allowed to have a some cows and pigs and chickens and acreage for a big garden, including wheat for our bread. We're going backwards. Remember when they used to brag about progress?
Well, this isn't progression, this is regression.
