(25,029 posts)You NEVER desensitize an impressionable young child to the power of a firearm.
Children should be educated at a young age (though a bit older than these babies and toddlers) of exactly what a gun is, what it can do, what happens when it does and what that means, what to do and not do if they should find one anywhere at anytime but a gun is no fucking joke.
The barrels in the kids mouths is fucking lightyears beyond the pale. What kind of "joke" involves tiny kids with guns in their mouths? Weapons of any kind aren't serious enough, suicide isn't fucked up enough that that even when you add the baby to the hijinks that the baby has to actually handle the fucking gun and play offing themselves to make it cute and funny???
It isn't just guns or kids with folks like these. My comfort level with them driving, operating machinery, having access to tools, having blades, or really anything is not much good. It doesn't matter an iota that other objects have other purposes the danger is no less, probably more. The stupidity with a car or more likely a big ass truck or SUV must be a moving fatality wagon. They start boozing it up and God help us all.
Someone that far off the reservation with guns and their own kids is a nightmare no matter what and need to be dealt with but these folks aren't most of us by many a mile, I pray. If not then we won't be able to tamper proof ourselves away from extinction.

(51,666 posts)you never, ever, pointed a gun, EVEN A TOY GUN, at someone unless you fully intended to kill them. Not that we had a lot of toy guns (but this was the early 60s and I think we had a toy cowboy rifle), mind you.
The lesson stuck. Our family never had any gun mishaps, unfortunate or other.

The fuck does that have to do with gun owners? Those people are insane. This is the problem with gun grabbers they paint everyone the same. Crickets my ass.

(2,500 posts)there is always a possibility of driving to the neighborhood grocery, and finding yourself performing in a real-life role in "House of 1000 Corpses" or "The Devil's Rejects" and coming face to face with Capt Spaulding. It's just life in 21st century Teabilly America.

(570 posts)That baby should be taken ASAP! My father was a cop and the one thing he drilled home with us is that there is no such thing as an unloaded weapon! Even if you "know" it's unloaded, it's not!

(51,678 posts)And to have a baby handle a gun is just plain child abuse.

(570 posts)I remember she came home really upset one day when a 9 year old little girl had been shot in head by her father while showing an "unloaded" gun to her uncle. The little girl would never recover and spend the rest of her life in a vegetative state. I was 8 at the time.
As far as I'm concerned, this people should not only have their baby removed, they should have their parental rights terminated and any and all other children they have now or produce in the future should automatically removed.

Saw the movie, "Fail-Safe" again the other night.
(https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/failsafe). Groeteschele's (portrayed by the late great Walter Matthau) famous dialogue stopped me cold:
"How long would the Nazis have kept it up General, if every Jew they came after had met them with a gun in his hand?"
--Walter Matthau, as Groeteschele in "Fail Safe" (1964)
It is a stunner to actually watch and hear Matthau's character utter these words. This so reeks of gun nut illogic to me. They've yet to evolve past this base mentality, as we head into another phony assault weapons ban fight with them.
The remake (2000) of Fail-Safe may capture this as well. I'll post the original or a clip of Matthau's character uttering the above dialog when I find it.

(13,485 posts)but I just don't want to go there.
It's perverted, reckless, arrogant minds that promote such things by pimping innocent children to show how tough they are as adults.

(185 posts)Respect for the power of firearms should be drilled into kids at an early age if you are going to have own one, When I was five I only picked up my fathers pistol twice...the first time he told me to leave it alone.....the second time he snatched me up threw me off the back porch and fire 5 shots into the ground close enough to me for dirt be kicked up on me and me to see the holes being blown in the ground then he point at the holes in the ground and then pointed at the gun and said if you touch this pistol again it will do the same thing to you...I didn't pick up or want to be in the same room with that pistol or any firearm for a long..long..long time.

(28,749 posts)How about kids just don't need to play/shoot/etc with guns at all... they are after all "kids"

(13,485 posts)I hope you are doing well now.
My dad knows the aftermath of what happens when kids play with guns, he practically blew his leg off just below the knee with a shotgun when he was younger, took 72 hours of surgery to piece it back together and 6mths for him to learn how to walk again, he wanted to make sure I understood what they were about, better him show me then i found it the worse way possible on my own, that being said I have more than a healthy dose of respect and knowledge of fire arms and it translates well into my career in the military.
