Subject: 35 States so far
Governors of 35 states have filed suit against the Federal Government for
imposing unlawful burdens upon them. It only takes 38 (of the 50) States to
convene a Constitutional Convention. This will take less than thirty seconds to
read. If you agree, please pass it on. This is an idea that we should address.
For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many
citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay
after only one term, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of
the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution
for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The
latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that passed ... in
all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite
that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent
or whatever . The self-serving must stop.
If each person that receives this will forward it on to 20 people, in three
days, most people in The United States of America will have the
message. This is one proposal that really should be passed around.
Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall
make no law that applies to the citizens of the United
States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or
Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators
and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States
..."
You are one of my 20.

Uncle Joe
(58,426 posts)She's always sending me chain letters of one kind or another.
Some of them are cute, religious or thoughtful others are blatantly political usually on the "conservative" side.
I told her months ago to quit sending me chain letters and she did stop for a while but recently started up again.
I still care for her but politically we're polar opposites.
Hekate
(90,829 posts)... because he was so over the top and was constantly sending me stuff even after I told him to cut it out. He really hates this country, and moved away, but he can't let it go.
Anyway, my SIL is a dear -- cutesy cartoons, prayers, and sometimes spam that makes my teeth grate -- but I would never cut her off. Sometimes I send her the Snopes link, but more often not.

(1 post)Just to enlighten a few who seem to misunderstand what this letter is... it is the second "way" to amend the constitution. As per article five of the constitution. So far in our history, has never been done. All constitutional amendments have been an act of congress. This amendment path is not. In fact the Fed Government has no power what so ever over this process. Nor do Governors of states. It is purely a convention of the state legislators. 38 states thru their legislators approve a convention of states, where amendments to the constitution are approved, by vote through this convention. Once one or many are voted on , then the amends are put to vote, again by state legislators, and must have 3/4 of the states approve the amendment (s). Once approved, becomes a part of the constitution.
This Article 5 amendment process, does not involve the Federal government, the governors of states and is purely conceived in the legislators that are nearest to you, your local state legislator. Completely bypasses the Federal Government, who so far have failed to fix their own mess. And is happening currently, not some idea that was dreaming , but occuring now...
Right now, they are 2 states away from starting the process... so you should be on the phone to your state legislator, as he or she is the one that will be taking this up. The Federal Government is never going to fix itself, they have had over 200 years to do so, and have failed to do so.
Have your voice heard, call your local legislator and get involved.. so your voice is heard.. and we fix our broken Federal Government. My state legislator is already involved in the process. And has 5 major ideas to propose, term limits, deficit, sunrise/sunset of the federal bureaucracies regulations, and no life terms in the supreme court.. sorry six.. 3/5 votes of the states, to veto any law passed by the Federal government.
