One of the reasons for printing a list of people who have guns is so that children in a neighborhood can be protected. If I were a mother and knew my neighbor had a gun, I would call my neighbor to make sure she was home and supervising the children before I would let my child play at that house. So, publishing a list of people who own guns is for public safety, especially the safety of children. Publishing a list of women who have abortions would not serve public safety at all.

Perhaps the reason that Ann Coulter is upset about the idea of publishing the names of people who own guns is that she does not have children. Perhaps she does not understand how concerned many parents are when they think about the possibility that their child could go to a house where guns are available and where children might play with them.
