A generic shoutout to William Rivers Pitt

A very good article from Truthout that pretty much sums up the past year from the sight of a gun.
Thank you Bill for your support here.

Resolve to Remember the Butcher's Bill

(Photo: Rudy Lara)It was my intention, with this final article of 2012, to make some sort of grand and sweeping assessment, a capstone argument, a clear-eyed statement of purpose in which...

Nope. Nothing there. I tried. I failed.

The well is dry, the socket has no charge, Casey has no bat. The Mayans were wrong; that's all I can muster.

The end of 2012 is something I greet in a state of exhaustion, horror, and sorrow. Every attempt to encompass these last 365 days has beggared me. Hell, the headlines over the last 72 hours alone have been enough to drive a man into the arms of serious drink.

Consider: During Sunday's interview with Obama on "Meet The Press," host David Gregory burnished his scumbag credentials by challenging the president to "talk tough" with seniors about the cuts he thinks they should absorb in Social Security and Medicare. No mention of any cuts whatsoever to the pornographic funding given to the "Defense" Department was made.

He is a treasure to DU and TO. Did he ever stop smoking? I hope so...became aware of him around the time I fought the demon.

This is another good read and I don't feel quite so crazy or alone after reading it. It has been one horrific year, filled with disgust at the savage violence, the determined ignorance, the long campaign of blatant racist dog whistles and a growing fear that no matter how crazed and stupid the Republicans were acting they were still going to pull off a win by cheating or by people just staying home. It really felt apocalyptic and I was starting to prepare for the prospects of a Romney presidency.

Will has been fighting and writing the good fight a long time. His columns always give me courage or comfort and I needed both in big doses this year. He has been one of the reasons I visit DU everyday. Nance Gregg is another. I first encountered Will on the Capital Grilling forum in 2001 after 911 where for awhile he was one of a handful of liberals jousting a very loud group of loopy conservatives drunk with power over Bush's stolen election and attempting to rewrite history at every turn. Will carved them up like a Christmas turkey and gave me courage to do battle myself.
Just want to say thanks for hanging in there with us, Will.
