It just seems weird to think that anyone would WANT to see the country go over the cliff.

(3,194 posts)I'm sure there are plenty of low income idiots out there who think this is somehow harmful to them, and are fine with dragging this out.

(22,541 posts)They just want Obama to lose. They will accept any illogical reasoning. If we wind up with a cliff/ceiling disaster and go into a depression because of Cantor it will still be blamed on Obama.

(36,281 posts)Call it a "fiscal cliff" and "going over it" sounds like such a disaster-- except that we did go over it, last night. It wasn't all that disasterous.
Call it a permanent end to the Bush tax cuts for the rich and a return to Clinton era revenue policy, with a heaping side order of military spending cuts and, well, that's a whole 'nother animal.
Call me a tea bagger if you like, but that latter framing sounds like music to my ears.
I think all this horsetrading with thieves over a "deal" to avoid the "fiscal cliff" is a terrible idea. The "cliff" itself is their worst nightmare, and a deal will only sweeten the outcome for republicans. I'd prefer to scrap any such deal and then fix the problems, like extending unemployment benefits, the AMT, Medicare reimbursement, etc via legislation in the coming weeks and months, after the new Congress is sworn in. Giving the republicans anything simply emboldens their leadership to obstruct more and demand greater accommodation.
