A federal court judge has granted a temporary restraining order that allows Tom Monaghan to avoid contraceptive coverage for employees in his Ann Arbor Dominos Farms property management company mandated under the Affordable Care Act.
The ruling does not cover Dominos Pizza, which Monaghan sold in 1998.
In an opinion issued Sunday, U.S. District Judge Lawrence Zatkoff wrote that Monaghan, who is a devout Catholic, has shown that abiding by the mandate will substantially burden his exercise of religion.
Zatkoff said he issued the temporary restraining order, because the case wouldnt be resolved before Jan. 1, which is when the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services mandate takes effect.
